As a member of the USHCC Board of Directors, you will be expected to work collaboratively with other directors to advance the mission of the USHCC. New USHCC Board members are sworn in at the board meeting during the annual National Convention. The term for USHCC Board members, including regional Board members, shall be three (3) years for the first and each subsequent term. Each director shall be limited to serving on the Board for a total of six (6) years. Additionally, board members must meet the criteria established for Board membership each and every year. Directors must arrange travel and lodging accommodations for each board meeting. Your physical attendance is imperative at the board meetings during the annual Legislative Summit (Spring) and National Convention (Fall). Directors shall serve without compensation.

Nomination Process

The application will be shared on August 8, 2018. Submissions are welcome beginning August 10, 2018 at 12:01AM EDT through August 24, 2018 at 11:59PM EDT. Once the application cycle elapses, the Local Chamber Ad Hoc Committee will assess nominees, and submit top candidates to the current USHCC Board of Directors for approval. Each new Board member will represent a different region, construed as follows:


Region 1:          Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington

Region 2:          Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming

Region 3:          Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas

Region 4:          Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin

Region 5:          Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia

Region 6:          Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee

  • Adherence to USHCC Code of Conduct, and all applicable law
  • Adherence to USHCC Conflict of Interest policy
  • Participate in USHCC Board of Directors meetings (regular or special)
  • Establish goals and objectives for USHCC operations
  • Act as an ambassador of the USHCC to the chamber community
  • Participate at events representing the USHCC
  • Provide guidance to staff members as needed
  • Report unethical behavior immediately
  • Resign if you cannot fulfill your responsibilities and commitments
  • For a full list of Board responsibilities and dues, a copy of the USHCC bylaws is available upon request

Each regional USHCC Board member shall also be a full voting member of the USHCC and will be subject to all the privileges and obligations of any other USHCC Board member.


All applicants will be assessed utilizing one set of selection criteria as crafted by the committee. These include:

  • Financial capabilities
  • Leadership/management style
  • Scope of Chamber’s reach and influence
  • Proven responsible stewardship of financial resources
  • Utilization of technology and social media for effective and innovative communications purposes
  • Political/legislative advocacy and fundraising
  • Status as current executive staff or Board member at a USHCC local chamber in good standing

Above all, both an acute understanding of the needs of the Hispanic chamber community, as well as strict adherence to the values of the USHCC—financial stewardship, transparency, inclusiveness, social responsibility, and pride—are necessary for this position.
