The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Urges the Biden – Harris Administration to Appoint More Latinos and Latinas to High-Level Positions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) urges President-Elect Joe Biden, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, and the Presidential Transition Team to consider and appoint more Latinos and Latinas to high-level political appointments within the new administration.

The USHCC actively supports the appointment of Hispanic candidates who are willing, professionally ready, and have the necessary expertise to serve our country and help us economically recover.

“U.S. Latinos and Latinas are unrivaled in talent, patriotism, diversity, and intellect. Voices of diversity, especially Hispanics who account for 61 million of the U.S. population, will only help to effectuate the change needed to improve quality of life and ensure economic vitality for all Americans. We need leaders that reflect the diversity of America,” said Ramiro A. Cavazos, President & CEO, USHCC.

The Hispanic demographic accounts for approximately 20% of all Americans. Latinos still make up only 1% of all local and federal elected officials. In our modern history, there has never been equitable representation in the United States Congress or in other key political appointments. This is a unique opportunity to create a systemic paradigm shift of inclusion and equality in all levels of government representation.

The USHCC would consider an equitable amount of appointments to be at least 800 of the approximately 4,000 placements made by the new administration to be filled by Latinos and Latinas.

The USHCC promotes the economic growth, development and interests of more than 4.7 million Hispanic-owned businesses that aggregately contribute over $800 billion to the American economy every year. The USHCC also serves as a platform for our nationwide network of more than 260 local Hispanic chambers of commerce.

“Furthermore, we are proud to provide necessary recommendations of qualified Hispanic professionals who are willing and ready to serve our country and worthy of consideration,” said Alice Rodriguez, Chair, USHCC Board of Directors.
