WASHINGTON, Mar. 21, 2015 – The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation has announced that it will host its inaugural Washington D.C. Regional BizFest Competition, set to take place March 20-22, 2015. BizFest is a three-day youth entrepreneurship contest that teaches high school students how to turn hobbies into profitable business ventures, offering hands-on, practical training for aspiring entrepreneurs, and encouraging students to pursue higher education.
“The USHCC Foundation is thrilled to expand its BizFest program through our new regional competition in Washington, D.C. This competition fosters an educational environment that inspires students to work hard, persevere, and ultimately, succeed,” said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. “We look forward to celebrating the growth of our Bizfest students, and celebrating their entrepreneurial pursuits at our USHCC Legislative Summit.”
The Washington, D.C. regional program is sponsored by Bank of America, reaffirming their commitment to youth entrepreneurship and leadership. The competition will be held at the Bank of America building in Washington, D.C.
“We are proud to support this unique opportunity and advance the entrepreneurial spirit of our youth,” said Kerry Sullivan, president of the Bank of America Foundation. “Our partnership with the USHCC Foundation has encouraged this impactful and innovative program, which promotes the development of personal interests into viable business opportunities.”
Regional finalists will advance to the BizFest National Competition held during the USHCC 2015 National Convention in Houston, TX this September. Students at the National Competition will compete against finalists from all Regional Competitions. National winners will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 to help defray college costs. The USHCC Foundation will cover the costs of travel, meals and lodging for the students to attend this convention where chamber leaders and business executives gather annually.
