WASHINGTON, DC–(Marketwired – October 05, 2016) – The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce Comcast as the 2016 “Corporation of the Year.” Comcast will receive this award at the organization’s National Convention on October 11 in Miami, Florida.
Each year, the USHCC presents this award to a corporation that has championed Hispanic enterprise, demonstrating that diversity and inclusion initiatives are both principled and profitable.
“We are thrilled to honor Comcast as our 2016 Corporation of the Year. As one of the nation’s largest video, high-speed Internet and phone providers, Comcast has been at the forefront of empowering minority business communities,” said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. “The corporation has provided its services to numerous businesses nationwide, becoming the nation’s largest cable provider to small and medium-sized businesses. Additionally, Comcast has developed a partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to close the digital divide and expand ‘Internet Essentials,’ the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program, to Americans living in HUD assisted public housing. This initiative has provided low-cost broadband service to over three million Americans throughout the United States.”
Additionally, Comcast is a member of the Billion Dollar Roundtable, which recognizes and celebrates corporations that have achieved spending of at least $1 billion with minority and woman-owned suppliers. The corporation is also a member of the USHCC’s Million Dollar Club, which honors corporations that have demonstrated a commitment to supplier diversity by contracting with Hispanic owned companies.
“Whether it’s providing affordable internet and access to free digital literacy training to many low-income communities, or spending billions of dollars with minority and woman-owned suppliers, the Comcast Corporation has constantly shown its commitment to ensuring that all Americans have the chance to succeed,” said USHCC Chairman of the Board Raymond Arroyo. “This vision of an innovative and inclusive world guides the company’s business model, not only so they can better serve their customers, but their communities as well. We at the USHCC are proud to recognize their accomplishments by naming Comcast as the 2016 Corporation of the Year.”
Comcast is the largest media company in the world, as measured by revenue, and has over 153,000 employees across the globe. The company provides video, high-speed Internet, phone services, and broadband infrastructure through its Comcast Cable business, and owns 15 national cable networks, 15 regional sports and news networks, and more than 60 international channels through its NBCUniversal business.
