USHCC Supports the Establishment of the National Museum of the American Latino

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) stands in support of the reintroduced legislation to establish The National Museum of the American Latino in Washington, D.C. as part of the Smithsonian Institution.

Following up on a previously stalled effort, legislation was reintroduced last week to establish The National Museum of the American Latino in Washington D.C. The USHCC stands alongside longtime friends and supporters of the organization in Congress such as Representative Will Hurd, Senator John Cornyn, Representative Joaquin Castro, Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and many more in the call to introduce the Latino story to the Smithsonian Institution. The proposed collection includes studies, research, publications, and the creation of exhibitions and programs related to Latino life, art, history, and culture within the Smithsonian. At the USHCC, we believe this act is an essential step forward in the effort to provide a complete portrait of the American Landscape, and we extend our full support behind the National Museum of the American Latino Act.

“The Latino community has had an immeasurable impact on the United States, with a collective story that dates back to the earliest days of our country. As the nation’s largest ethnic minority, it is clear that Latinos deserve a spot on the National Mall reflecting their deep connection to the fabric of our Nation,” said Ramiro Cavazos, USHCC President & CEO. “I look forward to the day when I can visit our National Mall and see a monument housing the history of our people that reflects the timeless achievements of the Latino Community in this country.”
